Drug drop-off event set for Saturday

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The Lockport Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will host a National Prescription Take-Back Day event Saturday at the Lockport Plaza, 338 S. Transit St.

The nationwide promotion is aimed at providing residents a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of unused and expired prescription drugs. D.E.A. arranges for the destruction of prescription drugs to keep them out of the hands of people who are not supposed to have them, and also keep the drugs’ toxic ingredients out of the water supply.

The local event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the plaza parking lot. It’s much like a drive-by drop-off and no questions are asked by law enforcement officers, city Capt. Michael Niethe said.

Syringes, chemicals and medical wastes will not be accepted.
