Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Lockport man walking with his 4-year-old daughter in the area of Day and Wheeler roads was accused of leaving the child unsupervised in the roadway Wednesday, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said.

Jedidiah J. Aiken, 28, 7107 Ellicott Road, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a report came into dispatch saying that two white males were walking in the roadway with a young child and were flagging down passing vehicles. When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw Aiken pushing a young girl in a toy push car. Aiken said that he was just taking his daughter for a walk. Deputies had Aiken and his daughter step off of the shoulder of the road while an investigation was conducted.

A witness told one of the responding deputies that when she initially saw Aiken and his daughter in the roadway, he was yelling at her. She then saw Aiken flag down a passing vehicle while his daughter was in the middle of the roadway unattended. The woman said that the child got out of the toy push car and was wandering the roadway unsupervised.

A second witness also stopped to speak with one of the responding deputies, and said that Aiken and his daughter were in-and-out of the roadway flagging down vehicles.

Aiken was taken into custody, and the child's mother came and picked up the girl.

Aiken was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. He is due in Town of Newfane Court on Tuesday.

Child Protective Services was also notified.
