Drunk man shatters van's windshield

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — An intoxicated man on Lockport-Olcott Road in the Town of Newfane attempted to stop traffic to allow a family to cross the road near Bye's Popcorn Thursday evening.

When a van didn't stop for the man, he began yelling at the van and shattered the van's windshield with a can of beer, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said.

The man was found walking in his front yard with a can of beer in his hand, the Sheriff's Office said. The man, described as "irate," was placed in handcuffs. A Lockport man said that the intoxicated man was assisting his family with crossing the street by stopping traffic when the confrontation with the van driver occurred.

The intoxicated man said the van swerved around him, and he and the driver exchanged curse words. Several witnesses said that the intoxicated man threw a can of beer at the van, shattering the windshield.

The Sheriff's Office was unable to locate the operator of the van to press charges against the intoxicated man.
