City M&T Bank branch robbed

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport police are searching for a suspect who robbed the M&T Bank branch at 118 Walnut St. late Friday morning.

According to Chief of Police Lawrence Eggert, the suspect walked into the bank and passed a note to the teller. He escaped with an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a white male. He was wearing blue jeans, a black Champion jacket, black hat and sunglasses. The suspect was last seen running southbound on Pine Street.

Eggert said the tellers inside are "a little shaken up" but doing fine.

"The people at the bank did a great job," Eggert said. "They did what they were supposed to do."

No weapon was displayed during the robbery. Lockport police and Niagara County Sheriff's deputies combed the area in search of the suspect. A tracking dog from the sheriff's department was also requested to assist in the search.
