Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — An unknown man walked out of the Home Depot on South Transit Road with $358 obtained in fraudulent returns around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man had three receipts from the Home Depot in Niagara Falls for items he returned. He also attempted to return three items he didn’t have receipts for, using a driver’s license that wouldn’t scan. The man told the cashier that he didn’t want a refund on the three items, and left them in his cart when he left. The cashier felt “suspicious” about the transaction, and reported it to her manager.

The man was described as tall and slender, around 6-foot-tall with shoulder length hair. A DMV check on the driver’s license number the man gave turned up invalid results, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The case was closed pending new information, the Sheriff’s Office said.
