Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Well over 100 people attended The Arc of Orleans County’s 5K Run/Walk on May 3. This year was the 20th anniversary of the event, which was started by Mary Lou Tuohey and family, in honor of her daughter, Nicole, who was born with Triple X syndrome. Doctors told the family that Nicole may never walk, talk, ride a bike, or do math. She does all of those things, and more, thanks to the help of staff at The Arc of Orleans County, and especially Rainbow Preschool.
Among those attending were 67 individuals, ranging in age from 7 to 79, who ran in the 5K Race. Top male winner was 14-year-old Hayden Pecoraro, of Albion, with a time of 20:04. Kerry Mills, 19, of Basom, was the top female; her time was 21:43.
In addition to the participants and volunteers, The Arc of Orleans County and the organizing committee would like to thank the Sacred Heart Club for the use of their premises and the Medina Police Department for their help during the race.
