Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — When Hannah Sharp began getting into fitness two years ago, she found that gym clothes which were both quality and affordable were difficult to find.
“There was nothing that I could find to wear to the gym that fit my budget,” Sharp, 24, of Lockport said.
With some inspiration from her boyfriend Justin Hosey, Sharp decided to make her own athletic wear similar to the styles made by Nike and Lululemon.
Soon, friends and family were asking Sharp to make them yoga pants, shorts and tank tops — some of which Sharp customized for their owners.
About three weeks ago, Sharp and Hosey certified their clothing line, “High Spirits Clothing,” as a business in Niagara County and obtained their tax ID number. They will be selling their athletic wear through their shop on Etsy, which will hopefully have products listed by next weekend, Sharp said.
“We’re finishing up the final patterns, and we just got the size tags in a few days ago,” Sharp said.
Laura Igoe, of Igoe 2 Yoga studio in Lockport, has the couple in one of her classes and says that their athletic wear comes in creative designs which are fashion-forward.
“Hannah has an edgy playfulness about her clothing line, it makes her pieces truly one of a kind,” Igoe said. “She has been incorporating creative cutouts from the beginning. Now it seems to be the “must-have” feature of established high end yoga apparel.”
The clothes will all bear the “High Spirits” brand name and logo, which Hosey, who has a background in graphic design, created.
Sharp hopes that the “High Spirits” brand will become synonymous with a positive lifestyle as well as sportswear.
“I chose the name because I want it to represent happy and healthy living,” Sharp said. “When I started working out and making the clothing, the idea was to create a better life.”
