Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Skateland to close Monday
Skateland will officially be closing its doors Monday.
The owners of the nearly 30-year-old skating complex expressed their financial distress in March.
Owners Brian and Lori Ferraro were able to raise over $20,000 of the $57,000 in back taxes due to the city over the past few months, but fell short of the amount needed before the May 16 deadline.
The money raised, through increased admissions and local fundraisers, will go to the city treasurer toward the balance of the taxes owed.
The owners also stated that the city will receive the full money due though an auction either run by the skating complex or by the city.
Skateland will be open all regular hours through Sunday.
The owners posted their thanks to guests on their Facebook page Monday.
“We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve this amazing community for nearly 29 years- the families we have met and the memories made, will stay in our hearts forever,” the post read.
