Teens caught trespassing at Lockport High School

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

Five teenagers were caught early Tuesday morning at Lockport High School, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and Lockport Police reported.

The group, three boys and two girls ranging in age from 13 to 18 years, were caught vandalizing property. Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour said the teens were reported to be ripping down signs. Lockport Police Chief Larry Eggert said the group was fooling around with the school's main electronic sign on Lincoln Avenue as well.

"But there was no damage to the sign," Eggert said.

Voutour said Lockport Police received a call around 3:10 a.m. Tuesday concerning the teens. Lockport officers contacted the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and a deputy rounded up the teens at the Dorchester Road and Locust Street intersection. Lockport High School sits at the corner of Locust and Lincoln Avenue.

Lockport Principal Frank Movalli said there weren't any reports of damages to the school. He spoke with the school's assistant principals and maintenance crew, none of which reported any damage.

No arrests were made or appearance tickets given, as Eggert said all five teens were released to their parents.

The Lincoln Avenue electronic sign was installed as part of the $23.5 million construction project at the high school, although the sign was paid for by fundraising. Lockport City School District voters approved the project in 2008 and general work has been completed.
