No-swimming advisory posted at Olcott Beach

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Swimming at Olcott Beach was ruled out for the third time this season on Tuesday.

The Niagara County health department issued a no-swimming advisory based on the results of most recent water sampling. Lake water in the area tends to carry higher-than acceptable levels of e coli, a bacteria found in human and animal feces, in the days after rain storms.

The no-swimming advisory is in effect until testing shows the water is clean again. The sandy beach itself remains open.

The health department maintains a "beach report" online, at www.niagaracounty.com/health/Resources. Visit the site to see Olcott Beach's status, open, unsafe to swim or closed altogther, on a daily basis.
