Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — John Percy, president and C.E.O. of the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation, was recently appointed president of the New York State Destination Marketing Organizations.
The N.Y.S.D.M.O. is formerly the state Association of Conventions and Visitors Bureaus.
Percy replaced outgoing president Peggy Coleman, head of the Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau, who left the post before the end of her term.
Coleman praised Percy's work with the statewide organization, crediting him with spearheading the "I Love New York Meetings" partnership with the state Division of Tourism. The partnership "has resulted in increased investment in marketing and advertising to the meetings and conventions market for our state," she said.
N.T.C.C. is Niagara County's official tourism promotion agency and destination marketing organization. In addition to leading its day-to-day operations, Percy serves on the board of directors of the American Bus Association, the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, Canal New York, the Niagara USA Chamber of Commerce and the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area Commission. He's also the newly named chairman of the Tourism Implementation Council, a subcommittee of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Western New York Regional Economic Development Council.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve as president of the New York State Destination Marketing Organizations,” Percy said. “I am looking forward to representing Niagara USA and working collaboratively with our statewide partners to encourage visitation, and convention and conference options across the broad spectrum that is New York State.”
