Lockport woman, 70, dies of injuries

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A 70-year-old Lockport woman who was ejected from a car in a rollover accident on Saunders Settlement Road on Oct. 18 has died from her injuries, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.

Barbara Pate succumbed to her injuries at Erie County Medical Center.

The accident occurred at 5:54 p.m. on Saunders Settlement Road, just west of Comstock Road in the Town of Cambria. Wade Smith, 64, of Lockport, was driving the car on Route 31 on Saunders Settlement when he lost control, crossing over the westbound lane and left the roadway. 

Smith’s car struck a ditch and culvert and rolled over. He was transported to ECMC with internal injuries and he was listed in stable condition. A front seat passenger, Annie Smith, 60, of Lockport, also went to ECMC with arm injuries. 

Pate, rear-seat passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and was found in the ditch. She was transported to ECMC where she was in the trauma unit with multiple injuries.

Cambria, Shawnee, and South Lockport Fire Companies responded to the scene along with Rural Metro ambulance.
