Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The school districts of Royalton-Hartland and Barker are expected to share Barker Superintendent Roger Klatt.
Both school boards will meet Wednesday for special meetings, where it is expected Klatt will be appointed as superintendent of both districts. The memorandum of agreement would take effect July 1 and run until June 30, 2014.
Roy-Hart will meet at 6 p.m. at the high school, 54 State St., Middleport, while Barker will meet at 7 p.m. at the district offices, 1628 Quaker Road, Barker.
A statement from the Roy-Hart district said both "districts have entered into a number of initiatives that involve sharing academic and extracurricular programs and gave good reason to consider a bold and promising initiative — sharing a superintendent.
Both boards felt the circumstances were favorable to conceive the idea of a school leader serving both districts. Dr. Klatt will serve as the shared superintendent through the 2013-14 school year, with options to continue the joint venture in subsequent years. Each district will share equal costs."
The districts already share a football team and have talked about a study to look into sharing a high school. Klatt has been superintendent of the Barker district since 2007.
Roy-Hart Superintendent Kevin MacDonald will leave the district June 30 to become the next superintendent of the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, that region’s Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
