Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — SOMERSET — A rally to oppose the Champlain Hudson Project will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Upstate New York Power Produces (UNYPP) Somerset facility, the former AES plant on Lake Road.
Somerset Supervisor Dan Eggert has invited Congressman Chris Collins, State Senator George Maziarz, Assemblywoman Jane Corwin and Niagara County Legislator John Syracuse as well as plant and trade workers to the protest.
According to Eggert, the CHPE project is an ill-conceived initiative that hurts Western New York.
The venture is being developed by Transmission Developers Inc. and is projected to carry hydropower and wind power from eastern Canada — and feed it directly into the New York City electricity market.
Construction costs are estimated at $2.2 billion for the section located in New York State.
