Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — With Thanksgiving in the rear-view mirror, Niagara Falls is getting into the holiday spirit with a couple of Christmas traditions in the city.
Niagara Falls City Hall’s annual holiday tree lighting ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at city hall, 754 Main St.
The holiday season kick-off will include a musical performance from “The Rainbow Singers” directed by Anita Harless, the lighting of the city hall lobby tree, Santa and his helpers and refreshments for families and friends.
The sixth annual Holly Trolley is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6.
City officials and a caroling youth chorus of Niagara Falls students will depart from city hall and make the following eight stops: NTCC at Roundabout, NACC/Schoellkopf Park, Columbus Park, Gill Creek Park, LaSalle-‘Foley’s Park’, Highland Community Revitalization Committee at The Renaissance House, Cenotaph Park Main Street, then return to City Hall.
The community is encouraged to meet the Holly Trolley along its route, sing carols with the riders at the stops and bring nonperishable food items, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves and/or toiletries.
This event, initiated by City Administrator Donna Owens, is a collaboration of the city, community and business association organizers that decorate their neighborhood sites and invite residents to meet them at the trolley stops.
The donations gathered on the trolley will be distributed to needy Niagara Falls families.HOP ON THE HOLLY TROLLEY Locations and times are as follows: • 4 p.m. -- Niagara City hall • 4:15 p.m. -- NTCC roundabout • 4:45 p.m. -- NACC/Schoellkopf community room • 5:10 p.m. -- Columbus Park • 5:40 p.m. -- Gill Creek Park • 6:10 p.m. -- Foley's Park in LaSalle • 6:40 p.m. -- HCRC Renaissance Place Highland Avenue • 7:10 p.m. -- Cenotaph Park Main Street • 7:30 p.m. -- Return to city hall
