WILSON — A Wilson man was charged with driving while intoxicated Thursday after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Young Street in Wilson.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, a vehicle operated by Michael L. Duplessis, 35, 2314 Harwood Ave., Wilson traveled over the double yellow line, sideswiping an oncoming vehicle.
The sheriff's report did not indicate the number of people int he other vehicle, nor if there were injuries.
The Wilson fire department also responded to the accident, reported at 6:27 p.m., and firefighters were evaluating Duplessis for lower back pain and a rapid heart rate when sheriff's deputies arrived.
A deputy interviewed Duplessis and noticed he had impaired motor coordination, and slurred speech. Duplessis said he had "a coupe light beers" and added he had taken prescribed medication around 1 p.m.
Duplessis failed field sobriety tests. He was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Newfane by Wilson ambulance. At the hospital a drug recognition evaluation was performed on Duplessis, who also tested positive for alcohol on a roadside alcohol meter.
After submitting a chemical blood test, Duplessis was released on tickets for DWI, changing lanes when a hazard exists, driving while ability impaired by a combined influence of drugs and alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
Additional charges are pending a result from blood test.
He was scheduled to appear in Town of Wilson Court on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
