City residents should call police for flood help

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Hundreds of houses have been flooded in the city of Lockport in what Mayor Michael Tucker called the worst in memory.

About five inches of water fell in the matter of a few hours Friday and the water treatment plant treated 92 million gallons, which is about 14 times more than the 7 million gallon average.

Ten area fire companies were called in for mutual aid to help pump out flooded basements. Homeowners should call the Lockport Police Department 433-7700 for assistance.

The driving ban was still in force Friday night, but the city is more concerned with helping flooded families than giving out tickets, officials said. The ban will continue into the night.

The Arts and Crafts Festival on Main Street and East Avenue will go on as scheduled Saturday and Sunday.
