Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —
Lockport police are investigating an accident in which the driver of a vehicle drove off Lincoln Avenue around 11 a.m. Friday and stopped atop a utility pole guy wire at Davison Road.
The vehicle came to rest at about a 45-degree angle on the wire, which supports a NYSEG power pole. The vehicle likely would have struck the pole without the guy wire.
Lockport firefighters and police, assisted by Niagara County sheriff's deputies worked to remove the driver from the vehicle, which was still in drive upon their arrival. It took emergency personnel a few minutes to secure the vehicle and turn off the engine.
The driver, who has not been identified, was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital by Lockport paramedics. An update on the driver's condition is not available.
Tire indentations in the grass indicate the driver was traveling west on Lincoln when the vehicle went off the road.
Dozens of people stopped to watch the rescue efforts, many taking pictures with their cell phones. many drivers pulled into the nearby Dollar General parking lot to watch, causing a chaotic situation in the lot.
