Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Regina Marker will withdraw from the Lockport City Schools Board of Education election, according to a statement released Tuesday.

"Since having submitted my petition for the Board of Education on May 1, unforeseen family circumstances have dictated a very difficult but necessary decision," Marker's statement said. "Had the burden of service lay strictly on my own shoulders, I would not even consider withdrawing.

While I could have waited until after the election, in hopes that the results would have negated the need for this letter, integrity dictates otherwise. There is a huge difference between signing a petition and casting a vote. Thus personal circumstances obligate me to hereby withdraw my candidacy for a position on the Lockport Board of Education."

Marker was one of seven who filed a candidate petition to run for one of three open seats on the school board. Incumbents Edward Sandell, Jon Williams, Diane Phelps, Randall Parker, Marietta Schrader and Todd McNall will also be on the ballot.

Marker narrowly missed election in 2011, missing out by about 240 votes.

On May 21 residents will elect three to the board, each for a three-year term.
