STAFF REPORTS

SOMERSET - Jonathan Dewart has announced that he will be a candidate in the November election for the office of highway superintendent for the Town of Somerset.

Dewart will seek the open office created after Kenneth Bigelow, the longtime superintendent, recently decided to retire.

Dewart, a registered Republican, will seek the Republican, Conservative and Independence lines in the November election.

“I am a lifelong resident of the Town of Somerset and have dedicated 28 years working for the town in the water, sewer and grounds department. I am confident that I have gained the experience and possess the dedication and commitment necessary to effectively and efficiently lead the Somerset Highway Department at this time,” Dewart said. “My strong leadership qualities, my focused and hands-on approach to problem solving and my community involvement in Somerset make me a strong candidate for this position.”

Dewart is a member of the Western New York Water Works Association, New York State certified Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and New York State Department of Health Grade D Water Operator. He also has a bachelor’s of science degree from Buffalo State College and is currently completing a master’s of science degree from Buffalo State College.

Outside of serving the Town of Somerset, Dewart is involved in many volunteer community organizations including serving as chairman of the trustees for County Line United Methodist Church, the Somerset Historical Society and is a past coordinator of the Lighthouse Optimist Soccer program. Dewart also has coached many athletic teams through the years at Barker Central School, Somerset Youth Baseball/Softball and Lighthouse Optimist Soccer.

Dewart and his wife Amy are both lifelong residents of Somerset. Amy is a math teacher at Barker Central School. They have four children, Emma, Ethan, Eliza and Lydia.
