Barn fire in south Lockport

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Firefighters from several fire districts are battling a barn fire on Bowen Road in the Town of Lockport.

A fire chief on location reported to Niagara County dispatchers that animals were being evacuated from the barn, and added that a boat near the barn had also caught fire.

The fire was reported around 2:35 p.m. as a field fire across from 7390 Bowen, between Shaffer and Riddle roads. Soon disptachers received an update that it was a building on fire.

Firefighters from the Rapids, Wolcottsville and Gasport fire districts are on scene.

Bowen Road has been shut down between Shaffer and Riddle roads.

Update, 3:02 p.m.:

Dogs have been rescued from a house at the site and horses were rescued from the barn, per the chief in charge of firefighting operations.

The location of the fire has been reported as 7385 Bowen Road.

Other fire companies on location include Clarence Center and Clarence. Firefighters from Newstead have been asked to man the Wolcottsville fire hall.

Update, 3:33 p.m.

Terry's Corners firefighters were part of the original call. Gasport requested Wrights Corners firefighters to stand by at the Wrights Corners hall to cover any emergency calls in the Gasport district.


Update, 5:29 p.m.

Most units are back in service. Also corrected the 3:02 update from Clarenden to Clarence.
