Annual poppy sale begins Thursday

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Red paper poppies will be distributed as a fundraiser for veterans beginning Thursday in Middleport.

Crepe paper poppies, handmade by military veterans who are in rehabilitation, will be distributed at Key Bank and Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union on Thursday and Friday, and at Middleport Family Health Center on Saturday.

The poppies are offered by the American Legion, Clute-Phillips Post 938 Auxiliary Unit, for freewill donations. The auxiliary forwards the proceeds directly to veterans and their families, according to auxilarians Marty Ulrich, Americanism chairman, and Sunne Conley, poppy chairman.

Middleport's Memorial Day parade and memorial ceremony will begin at noon Monday at the fire hall on Main Street. Lineup is at 11:45 a.m. and all service personnel are invited to join, in uniform if possible.
