Dufour takes board seat

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — TOWN OF LOCKPORT –– Patricia Dufour will succeed late Councilman Paul H. Pettit on the Lockport Town Board.

Dufour was appointed Wednesday by the Town Board to complete Pettit’s term, who died Nov. 17 at age 74.

She will serve for one year and have to run for election in the fall for a full four-year term, Supervisor Marc R. Smith said.

Dufour, who has resided in the town since 1998, is the vice president and owner of Cornerstone Services Group, Inc. She has a real estate broker license and a background in residential and light commercial construction.

Dufour said she was looking forward to serving on the Town Board.

“I’m honored and really excited,” she said.

Smith said Dufour was chosen from a group of three after extensive discussion. She will resign her seat on the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency as well as her spot on the town Board of Assessment Review.

In other town news, a public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at the town hall on Dysinger Road on the creation of a new town department. The law was introduced at Wednesday’s work session.

Town officials want to create the Department of Operations, which would oversee the town’s lighting districts, parks and facilities, except for the town highway garage. It would also oversee water and sewer work.

“It’s consolidating all of those under one department,” Smith said.

The new department would be run by the director of operations, a position that will be comparable in salary to other department heads, Smith said. Previously, the work was done by a variety of individuals, the supervisor said.

• Councilman Paul W. Siejak said town residents recycled 40,932 pounds of electronics in 2012. That netted Lockport $2,958.80 from Regional Computer Recycling & Recovery, the firm in charge of the town’s electronic recycling program. For the six months of 2011, the town collected 4,914 pounds for $245.
