Lockport man gets prison for stabbing

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Town of Lockport man is going to state prison for stabbing another man last July.

Justin J. Snead, 22, Lincoln Place, was sentenced Friday by Niagara County Judge Sara S. Farkas to four years behind bars and three years of post-release supervision.

Back in March, Snead pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, a class D felony. As a result, Farkas said she agreed to sentence Snead to no more than four years in prison. The maximum sentence for such a charge is seven years.

In court on Friday, Snead started reading a statement that was finished by his lawyer James J. Faso. In the statement, Snead expressed guilt over what happened and concern over the health of the victim. Snead said he was praying the victim would recover.

“I am truly sorry for what happened to the victim,” Snead said.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Snead stabbed Edward Wright during a fight at about 3 a.m. July 5 at the Lincoln Place Apartments. Snead stabbed Wright nine times in the back and shoulder, resulting in serious injuries, said Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann.

At one point, Hoffmann said, the injuries were so severe that there was concern Wright wouldn’t make it. He spent time in intensive care at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and received staples and stitches in addition to surgery.

“They were very significant injuries, he needed a number of surgeries,” Hoffmann told Farkas.

The sentence also covers misdemeanor drug and mischief charges at the town level. Snead was arrested three times, the last being in December for drug possession.
