WILSON — Officials from federal, state and local governments are expect to tour the Wilson Harbor this morning to assess the needs of the federal safe harbor on Lake Ontario.
Congressman Chris Collins, R-Clarence, will head the contingent, which features state Sen. George Maziarz and Assemblywoman Jane Corwin; Bill Ross and David Godfrey of the Niagara County Legislature and local leaders.
"They can see see first hand what we're talking about, what needs to be done," Wilson Supervisor Joe Jastrzemski said. "The federal government is not taking care of us. Hopefully they'll give us some money."
The two major concerns are dredging the harbor and the International Joint Commission's plans to change the water level limits on the deepest Great Lake, according to the supervisor.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has promised money for a small portion of the harbor, but not enough to dredge the whole channel, Jastrzemski said.
"The harbor has to be taken care of," Jastrzemski said."We want them to step up and spend the money."
The IJC decision on water levels is expected in the fall.
