Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Over 110 people were arrested and over 850 traffic tickets were given out during a DWI crackdown by local law enforcement, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The office, along with the police departments of Lockport, Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Middleport, Lewiston, Town of Niagara, Barker and Somerset all pariticipated in the “National End of Summer and Labor Day Driving While Intoxicated Enforcement Crackdown” from Aug. 16 until Sept. 2. The New York State Police and State Park Police also pariticpated.
All agencies used larger patrols that were specifically for DWI enforcement. Throughout Niagara County, 43 people were arrested for DWI, while another 76 were arrested under other charges. About 850 tickets were given out for traffic violations.
