NEWFANE: Early Childhood Center closed today

Staff Reports
Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

NEWFANE Newfane School District’s Early Childhood Center on Godfrey Road will be closed today for emergency renovations, according to superintendent Gary Pogorzelski.

The closing affects about 200 children in the Head Start program, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and the Niagara Speech and Hearing Center. Faculty and staff are to report as usual.

“This is a pro-active, precautionary measure based on some preliminary testing done on paint chips,” Pogorzelski said. “We will be developing a plan with assistance of the Health Department and other experts as to where we go from here.”

There will be an executive session at 7 p.m. today and a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Newfane Senior High School. It is not known how long the center will be closed.
