Since opening her Main Street location in 2012, Julie Muscato Interiors has been helping the Lockport community with their design needs. The store offers custom window treatments, wallpaper, upholstering and a furniture showroom.

Three weeks ago, Julie Muscato, interior designer, also expanded her business to include a home decor and gift shop.

The new aspect of the business is located in the front part of her showroom and has a variety of gifts and decor items, including greeting cards, candles, soaps, hand towels, books and chocolate.

“There was a void in our area,” Muscato said. “We really didn’t have anything unique at really nice prices.”

With the new gift shop, she said she hopes to achieve a location where people can find “really gifty, home decor pieces that are unique and well priced.”

”One of my missions with this, is have people come in and feel they can get a nice gift, under the $20, $30 dollar range, and have it be really unique that you’re not going to find at your chain stores,” Muscato said. “It’s so nice when you can go and pick up something really different and not have to spend over $50.”

Shop local is also key to the business. She currently carries a line of greeting cards made in Buffalo, along with All That Chocolate from Newfane. As the store continues, Muscato hopes to increase the local presence, by adding items from local authors, artisans and more.

“I’m trying to do some localvore things,” she said. “That, to me, is important.”

Since opening the home decor and gift shop, Muscato said it has been well received by the community. One of the main reasons Muscato decided to open the shop was to get more traffic into her business.

“I felt I wasn’t getting a lot of traffic,” she said. “I feel people tend to be a little intimidated.”

She said people often question if they need a designer, but if they come into the store for the gift shop, they can look around and see the window treatments or furniture.

“It gets people in so they can feel and realize I am really your go to person,” Muscato said. “It beaks the ice and gets people in.”

Muscato looks forward to continuing the gift shop, adding new items for each season.

“It’s really been fun,” she said.
