FRIDAY: Police, fire departments offer disaster training courses (3:13 p.m.)

The Lockport police and fire departments are offering a free community emergency preparedness course.

The Community Emergency Response Team, made up of emergency personnel from different agencies, will prepare individuals, families and neighbors in assisting first responders in the event of a disaster.

The training sessions, held in an eight-week course, will focus on several training topics, including disaster preparedness, fire safety, emergency medical operations and terrorism.

One session will focus on a disaster simulation training exercise.

The course will be held Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 2, at the Dale Association, 33 Ontario St.

There is no charge for the course, but pre-registration is required. Participants must be at least 16 years old and attend all classes.

For more information, contact Mark Sanders at the Lockport Police Department, 439-6704.
