An 86-year-old City of Tonawanda man was charged with harassment, menacing and obstructing governmental administration on Thursday afternoon, police reported.
Police say Richard J. Sikora, of 17 Gath Terrace, choked a 53-year-old female in the house as she tried to call police to report that he was hitting her.
According to police reports, Sikora awoke from a nap Thursday afternoon and began yelling profanities.
The victim told him to calm down, which only upset Sikora more and he allegedly began punching the woman in the ribs, police reports state. As the victim tried to call police, Sikora allegedly punched her in the back and wrapped his arm around her neck, pulling her away from the phone.
Police released Sikora on an appearance ticket. He was transported by Twin City Ambulance to Erie County Medical Center after complaining of shortness of breath following the incident.
