RUSH, N.Y. (AP) — A suburban Rochester woman is recovering after a large firecracker she mistook for a candle exploded in her hand.
Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say the 24-year-old woman thought she was lighting a candle Tuesday evening, then realized the device was a firework and tried to get it out her home in the town of Rush, 10 miles south of Rochester.
Deputies say the device exploded in her hand, causing serious injuries to her fingers. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
The woman’s name wasn’t released.
