Lance Corporal Philip Michael Bushong, 23, born on July 11, 1988 in Orange County, California, to Michael R. Bushong and Clara (Mitzi) Benedict-Grimley, went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2012.

Philip joined USMC in March 2008, where he then was stationed in Washington, D.C., a rifleman assigned to the 2nd battalion, 2nd Marine Regime, 2nd Marine Division in Washington, D.C. at 8th & I. Philip was hand chosen to serve as a Color Guard. He carried the Marine Corps flag at the Presidential Inauguration Parade and Inaugural Balls. Philip was also chosen to hold the American flag for the Iwo Jima 65th Anniversary Ceremony. Lance Corporal Bushong was deployed from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, March 2011 through February 2012 with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Mediterranean and the Middle East, returning home February 2012. Philip Bushong was scheduled to receive honorable discharge on April 26, 2012. He has been recognized with Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense  Service Medal, Meritorious Mast and Letter of Appreciation.

Philip's life is a reflection of well-loved beauty in all respects. With his magnetic personality and always smiling, he touched lives wherever he went.  Philip was full of life and his appreciation for it flowed from his being. Philip's musical gift of playing guitar showed his talent and depth for  music that he so loved. Philip was delightful and always brought about smiles by giving his first.  He was a dedicated man, respectful and respected, as well as goal-oriented.

Philip is survived by his father, Michael (CT); mother, Clara (Mitzi); brother, Keenan (Connecticut); greatly missed by uncles and aunts, Glenn Benedict (CA), Judy Evert, Debbie (Tom) Braunscheidel (NC), Douglas Benedict, Dudley (Lauri) Benedict; and several cousins; and his sweetheart, Margaux Blau (Pup) (Washington, D.C.); and all his Marine Corps brothers.

Funeral services were held in Massachusetts on Monday. Phillip was laid to rest with full military honors on Tuesday. The family will be holding a memorial for Philip in Lockport on a later date. Thank you Lance Corporal Bushong for serving our country, we love you and you will be greatly missed by all.
