Harriett L. Schweigert, 81, of Marion St., Corry, PA, died at the Corry Manor on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. She was born on December 27, 1930 in the Village of Shelby, NY, a daughter of the late Harry and Leona Coon Lonnen.
Harriett was raised and educated in Barker, NY, where she graduated from Barker Central School in 1948. She was employed as a secretary for Barker Central School for a short time before her marriage. Following her marriage, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Harriett was a secretary for other businesses in Buffalo before moving to Corry in 1961. She began working as a secretary for Davis Insurance Company in Corry in 1970 and retired from there in 1992.
She was a member of the West Spring Creek Congregational Church and was treasurer for many years and also held many other offices in the church. Harriett was very proud to be the Editor and Publisher of the church newsletter for many years. She was a member of the Concord PTA while her children were in grade school and she and her husband helped to start the Corry Band Boosters. Harriett enjoyed reading, sewing and working with and making stained glass decorations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Harriett is survived by her husband of 63 years, David D. Schweigert, whom she married on August 12, 1949 in Buffalo, NY; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Williams of Corry, PA; two sons, David G. Schweigert and his wife, Catherine, of Girard, PA and Frank W. Schweigert and his wife, Beverly, of Blairsville, PA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Breanna, Cole, Becca, Denton, Jillian and Blake; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, PA, on Friday from 5-8 PM and at the West Spring Creek Congregational Church, 3231 Old Rt. 77, Spring Creek, PA, on Saturday from 1 PM until the time of the funeral service there at 2 PM. Rev. Michael Sperry will officiate. Burial will be in the West Spring Creek Cemetery, W. Spring Creek, PA.
