HARTLAND —

Leon H. Walker, age 101, lifetime resident of Hartland, entered into rest Friday, August 16, 2013.  Born December 11, 1911, at home in Gasport, NY, he was the son of Roy James Walker and Mabel (Bassett) Walker.
Leon was a dairy farmer and served the Town of Hartland and County of Niagara. He was Town councilman from 1948-1960, Town Supervisor from 1960-1968, Niagara County Legislator, and until his retirement in 1973, Superintendent of Niagara County Parks.
He was predeceased by his wives, Ella May (Gascoyne) Walker (1971) and Dorothy (Guild) Walker (2008); son, Dudley L. Walker (2006); brothers, Raymond, Carl, Donald, Willard, George; sisters, Viola Graham, Emily Walker and Marilyn Harrington.
He is survived by one brother, R. J. Walker, Jr. of Gasport; one daughter, Dawn Golomb and son-in-law, Terry of Brooksville, FL; daughter-in-law, Gail (Ramming) Walker of Rush. He was the grandfather of Faye (Bill) Piper of Houston, Lee (Bob) Hiller of Medina, Traci Walker of Rush, and Jason (Amy) Walker of Manchester, PA. He was a great-grandfather of five and great-great-grandfather of five.
Leon split his time after retirement between Hartland and Ft. Myers, FL. His heart belonged to Hartland. He was a long-time member over the years of IOOF, Farm Bureau, Hartland Conservation Club, Holestien Club of America, and lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.
Interment will be at Hartland Central Cemetery at a date to be determined. Memorials to Tri-Town Ambulance Services would be appreciated by the Walker family.
