Joseph Warren

BARRINGTON, IL — Joseph Warren, 89, of Barrington, IL, passed away August 6, 2013. Mr. Warren was a former resident of Lockport, NY and graduated from Lockport High School in 1942. He went to the  University of Illinois and graduated with a BS degree in Personnel Management. While at Illinois, he became president of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity serving as its president and in his senior year he became International Undergraduate Secretary of the fraternity's Grand Lodge. While at Illinois he organized a big band, dance band playing not only at Illinois campus but other colleges nearby. Mr. Warren received his master's degree in Industrial Relations from Loyola University of Chicago in 1960. He went back to Loyola and taught classes at the graduate level on a part-time basis for three years.

His first job was with Ekco Products in Chicago and was later transferred to their plant in Geneva, NY as Personnel Manager. He worked in the field for a total of 23 years for several companies. His last job was with Allied Products Company, a Fortune 500 company, as Vice President of Human and Industrial Relations. He left to go into business for himself in 1972; he and his wife opened a kitchen specialty shop they kept for 13 years - it was called the Kitchen Boutique of Long Grove, IL. In 1976, he established the representation firm of Joseph Warren, Inc., with a showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart, which services stores in five Midwest states. Joe's son, Christopher, has taken over the running of this business although Joe remained fully active in the corporation. Music was always a part of Mr. Warren's life. As a singer, he worked with dance bands in high school and college, to barbershop singing after that. His quartets were Illinois champions twice and finished in the top five several times at the International Quartet Contests. They appeared on barbershop shows all over the country. In addition to singing in Illinois, they have performed on Chicago television and radio many times. They sang at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, NY, Chautauqua, NY and Symphony Hall in Boston to name a few. In later years, Mr. Warren limited his singing to singing in Catholic churches as a song leader and soloist, for a total of 19 years.

Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (nee Wilds) of 62 years of marriage; and son, Joel M. Warren (51) of Fontana, WI. He is survived by his son, Christopher R. Warren of McHenry, IL; daughter-in-law, Carol A. Warren of Fontana, WI; and three wonderful grandchildren, Michael S. Warren of Fontana, WI, Jennifer L.  Warren of McHenry, IL, and Daniel J. Warren of McHenry, IL.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013, from 4-8 PM at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 11:30AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Rd., Barrington, IL. Entombment, Ascension Mausoleum, Libertyville, IL.
