Clifford Hilton Arthur Kumm, husband of the late Iola Kumm, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 19, 2013, while in Buffalo General Hospital. Clifford was born on March 13, 1922 in Hibbing, MN to Arthur and Persis (Sanders) Kumm.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps from September 24, 1942 to September 26, 1945, where he served in several campaigns to include Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Rome-Arno and Southern France. Clifford was the recipient of several awards to include the Distinguished Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Medal, Overseas Medal, New York Medal of Merit and the D-Day Medal. Clifford was employed at Durez Plastics, a division of Hooker Chemical, located on Walck Road in North Tonawanda, NY for 37 1/2 years as a pipefitter. He was a volunteer firefighter with the North Bailey Fire Department holding the position as lieutenant for six years. Clifford was a very active member of the Newfane VFW Post 8438 for many years up until his passing.
Surviving are his children, Gerald (Christine) Hicks of Michigan, Bonnie (Charles) Fell of Lockport, Sheila (Roger) Chenez of Lockport, and Stephen (Linda) Hicks of Washington; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Faith Johnson of Bradenton, FL. He was predeceased by several brothers and one sister.
There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC.
