Anthony Joseph "Nin" Angelo, 85, of Newfane, NY, formerly of Lockport, NY, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Buffalo General Hospital.
"Nin" leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy (Hausman) Angelo. He is survived by his three sons, Mark (Tammy) Angelo of Rochester, NY and their two sons, Ben and Curtis; Paul (Mary Ellen) Angelo of Rochester, NY and their son, Nicholas; and Brad (Michelle) Angelo of Lockport, NY and their son, Dylan and two daughters, Brielle and Ryleigh. Also survived by his brother, John (Marie) Angelo of Ft. Myers, FL. He was predeceased by his sisters, Katherine (Joe) Angelo, Ida (Steve) Grout, Anna Angelo, Mamie Angelo and Josephine (David) Shindle.
"Nin" was a veteran of the US Navy. He was known as "The Little Lefty" from Lockport. "Nin" became a household name throughout Western New York in the early 1960s when he appeared on local television's "Beat the Champ" program for 19 consecutive weeks. Nin had a passion for family, fishing, photography and the NY Yankees.
He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and friends in the bowling community.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home, 70 Niagara Street, in Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 11 AM at All Saints Parish Oratory, 391 Market Street, Lockport, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nin Angelo Foundation for the development of youth bowling. Donations can be mailed to 6280 S. Transit Road, Lockport, NY 14094. Interment In North Ridge Cemetery.
