LOCKPORT —

Robert F. Balcerzak, of Lockport, formerly of Medina, passed away on Thursday morning, October 31, 2013 at the Briody Health Care Facility. Mr. Balcerzak was born in Medina, June 9, 1928, the son of the late Frank J. and Florence (Dujenski) Balcerzak.
Mr. Balcerzak was predeceased by his lovely wife, Lela J. (Norris), whom he married in July of 1951. He is survived by six children, Thomas of Lockport, Jeffrey (Dyan) of Lockport, Ronald (Stephanie) of Rochester, Debra (Thomas) Balcerzak-Wilson of Hersey, PA, Steven (Kimberly) of Medina and Edward (Michele) of Aurora, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara B. (Robert E.) Waters, Marcia B. Tuohey, both of Medina and Shirley Weston of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife on November 24, 2006.
Mr. Balcerzak was a graduate of St. Mary's School, Medina High School and Clarkson University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion during the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and several Theatre Ribbons. Mr. Balcerzak worked with his father in the Medina Construction firm of Frank J. Balcerzak & Son for many years and also obtained his New York State Professional Engineer License. He later was employed by NYSEG on the Somerset Power Plant Project and at the Company Headquarters in Binghamton until he retired in 1991. Mr. Balcerzak was a Life-Member of both Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion and the Lincoln Post #1483, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call on Monday (4-7 PM) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street, Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Marys Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by members of Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion and Lincoln Post #1483, VFW. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
