Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

BATAVIA — Charles "Chuck" Arnold entered into rest January 17, 2014 in the New York State Veterans Home, Batavia, after a lengthy illness. Born February 27, 1926 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Charles and Rita (Schawe) Arnold.

Chuck was a graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo and a proud veteran of WWII, serving from 1944-1945 in the U.S. Army. His decorations included the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with Bronze Star and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star. After his service Charles attended Bryant and Stratton Business College in Buffalo, and then worked as an accountant for National Cash Register where he retired after 40 years.

Mr. Arnold was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Akron. He was an aviation enthusiast building planes as a child, and had the honor of being selected to work at the former Curtiss Wright Plant where he was in charge of checking the oil and coolant for the P-40 fighter planes. He felt a sense of pride for working at the end of the assembly line to see the final project completed.

Charles was the beloved husband of the late Hazel J. (Crawford) Arnold, whom he married September 29, 1951, and passed away September 9, 2009. Loving brother of Ronald (Lorraine) Arnold; brother-in-law of Helen Maundrell, Geri Kowalchuz and Ruth Barney.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 AM in the Free Methodist Church on Scotland Road, Akron. Pastor Rick Rouse will officiate. Interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Kenmore, NY. Expressions of sympathy in Charles' memory would be appreciated to the church. Arrangements completed by Childs Funeral Home LLC of Akron.
