Myra A. Riggs

LOCKPORT — Myra A. Riggs, age 101, of Lockport, NY, formerly of Olean, NY and Somerset, NY, wife of the late James O. Riggs, entered into rest Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Odd Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Facility. Myra was born in the Town of Somerset, NY, April 29, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Alyce Jesson Atwater.

Myra was a high school graduate and attended Buffalo Normal School for three years. She was a school teacher in a country school house in Pendleton, NY for several years. Myra married James O. Riggs June 27, 1934; he died June 9, 1985. She enjoyed reading and Myra and James raised several foster children.

Mother of the late Philip Riggs and Sharon Dake. Foster mother of Sally (James) Pitcher and Robin Jobe. Sister of Ruth Platt of Lockport, NY and the late Faith Ball, Robert, Franklin, Margaret, Fred, Kenneth and Donald Atwater. Also survived by seven grandchildren and many great and great- great-grandchildren.

No prior visitation. Private graveside services will be in Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1:30 PM at West Somerset Baptist Church, 1876 Hosmer Road, Appleton, NY 14008. Memorials to Freedom Village USA, 5275 New York 14, Lakemont, NY 14857, would be appreciated by the family.
