Carrie A. Denk

NORTH TONAWANDA — Carrie A. Denk went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2014, after a  long battle suffering with diabetes. She was a patient at North Gate Health Care Facility, Wheatfield, NY.

Carrie was born in Batavia, NY on May 3, 1918 to George and Josephine (Ognibene) Joy. Carrie  worked at the Curtis Co., (a defense plant), Buffalo, NY, during WWII and for many years at the Wurlitzer Organ Co. in North Tonawanda, NY. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital, Bailey Ave., Buffalo, NY, along with her husband, Walter, who was an ex-prisoner of war during World War II. Walter predeceased her in July 2000. Carrie was a member of Tonawanda Senior Citizens organizations where she traveled extensively with her husband, Walter. Among her many activities, she enjoyed knitting and working in her garden.

Carrie is survived by her sister, Mickey J. Scarcia and nephew and godson, Angelo J. Scarcia; nieces, Mrs. James A. (Carol) Spedding, Mrs. Patrick (Michele) Connolly and Mrs. Lowell (Trisha Scarcia) King. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Profeta, Sarah Denk and her brothers, Joseph, Frank and Salvatore Joy. She is also survived by may nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday from 1-3 PM, at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 533 Meadow Drive (new location), North Tonawanda, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM from St. Christopher's Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda, NY. Interment, White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery.
