NEWFANE — David W. Martin, husband of Phyllis Callaghan Martin, passed away peacefully Thursday,      November 14, 2013, at Eastern Niagara Hospital Newfane site, with his family at his side.

David was born August 20, 1931 in Tonawanda, NY to Leon and Jennie (Scott) Martin. He wed Phyllis Callaghan on October 2, 1971 in Clarence.

A graduate of Newfane Central School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1951-1955. He was based at Newport, Rhode Island and served aboard the U.S.S Leyte. After his discharge he went to work at the Union Sun & Journal, serving his apprenticeship as a compositor, linotype operator and machine repairman, for 20 years. He then went to work for Harrison Radiator, General Motors in skilled trade-machine repair.

He loved his home and taking care of the yard, especially cutting the grass on his tractor. He also loved fixing things in his workshop.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Dan) Green of Clarence Center and Vickie (Keith) Wagner of Plano, TX; seven grandchildren,  three great-grandchildren and a nephew, Donald Deho and his wife, Terri of Clarence Center. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth (Deho) Napora.

Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY 14108, on SUNDAY 1-4 PM, where funeral services will be held on MONDAY at 10AM, with the Rev. Judith Lee officiating. Burial will be held at North Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
