LOCKPORT — Leon A. Cummings, age 68, of Lockport, NY,   entered into rest on August 14, 2013, unexpectedly at his residence. Leon was born in the Town of Newstead on January 2, 1945, son of the late Warren and Margaret (Reigle) Cummings.

He was a graduate of Akron High School, Class of 1963, and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-1971, as a Sharpshooter. He was employed in the custodial department at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, retiring in 1994 after 30 years of dedicated employment.

Leon was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Akron, also a member of American Legion LL Tillman Post #900 and the VFW #3180, both in Akron. Leon was also a member of the Mountain Elk Foundation and the Oakfield Rod & Gun Club. In his spare time, he  enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, car shows and was an avid weekly attendee at local auctions. Most importantly to Leon was spending quality time with his family and friends.

Leon is survived by his dear wife of 46 years, Carol "Tootie" (Smith) Cummings, whom he    married on March 4, 1967. Loving father of Jeffrey (Anita) Cummings, Mark (Tracy) Cummings and Holly Cummings; cherished grandfather of five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; dear brother of Leslie (Marsha) Cummings, Larry (Diane) Cummings, Milt Cummings, Janice (Gary) Cummings, Sue (Mike) Ribbeck, Bev (Tom) Berndt, Roy Rosenberg, Beatrice (Jim) Gill and the late Gordon Rosenberg. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.

Family will receive family and friends on Friday from 12 Noon to 4 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron, where services will we held at 4 PM. Rev Ron Houseman will officiate. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leon's memory are encouraged by the family to the Wolcottsville Fire Company or the American Legion Post #900.
