Wilbert A. Wentland passed away March 9, 2014 in Briody Health Care Facility. Born in Buffalo on December 9, 1924, he was the son of Edward and Matilda Wentland. Wilbert served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945, being awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, European Theatre Medal - 1 Star and Asiatic - Pacific Medal. He worked for Mobil in Buffalo where he was a welder for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Wilbert was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lockport and the Elks. He enjoyed golfing, going to the casino and puttering around the house.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stamm Wentland of Lockport; father of Thomas (Sandy) Wentland of Springville, Diane Wentland of Ann Arbor, MI, Daniel (Kathy) Wentland of Mississippi, and Scott Wentland of Buffalo; step-father of Patricia (Michael) McGinnis of Shalotte, NC, Diane (Karen) Stamm of Seymore, TN, David Stamm of Los Angeles, CA, Douglas (Lisa) Stamm of Massachusetts, Deborah (Jeff) Rey of Lockport, Judith (Kevin) Moran of Lockport, and Kenneth (Kathy) Stamm of Mariotta, GA; grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of seven and great-great-grandfather of one; brother of Evelyn (late Pete) Chmura and predeceased by seven additional siblings; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Saturday, March 15th, at 11 AM in First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St., Lockport. Memorial donations to the church would be appreciated by the family.
