William Ferguson

LOCKPORT — William Ferguson, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY.

He was born in Liverpool, England on October 1, 1934, the son of the late Charles and Violet Ferguson.

He served  two years with the Royal Air Force.

Mr. Ferguson moved to North Tonawanda in 1965. He was a tool maker with Harrison Radiator and later with Delphi in Lockport, for over 22 years, before retiring in 1998.

He was the Past President of the UAW Local #686 and the labor liaison with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of WNY.

Mr. Ferguson served as a Board Member for the United Way of Eastern Niagara and Opportunities Unlimited and was involved in Project Life Saver. He served as the Master of the Eggertsville Lodge in 1974. He also spearheaded the capital expansion project at Starpoint Central School, while serving on the School Board.

Mr. Ferguson was a track official for the Niagara Orleans League. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, spending time at his cottage, and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Miriam (Haddock) Ferguson; two sons, Neil (Mary)      Ferguson of North Tonawanda, NY and Mark A. (David Buczek) Ferguson of Bethlehem, PA; one daughter, Karen G. (Gary) Triano of Niagara Falls, ONT; six grandchildren, Leslie Ann (Tim) Kane, Scott, Neil, Nathan, Hailey and Alyssa; also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ferguson was predeceased by  two  brothers and one sister.

The family will be present on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 61 Payne Avenue, North Tonawanda, NY, with the Rev. Earle King officiating. Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
