Donald F. Ferris, Jr., 73, of DeLand, FL, passed away on November 13, 2012. Donald and Joanne wintered here for seven years and then moved from his birthplace of Lockport, NY, to make their primary home in DeLand.
Don proudly served his country in the US Navy and after his return, started working in Quality Control with General Motors. Through his love for sports, he was very involved in coaching ball but as for Donald, his own hobbies included cooking, golfing and fishing and he felt life didn't get better than that!
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Peracciny Ferris; and two sons, Daniel and Mark. Surviving family members include his wife, Joanne of DeLand, FL; father, Donald F. Ferris, Sr. of Lockport, NY; three sons, Anthony and Christopher of DeLand, Donald III of Utah; daughter, Stephanie of Lockport, NY; sisters, Adele (Sharon) Rietz, Sanborn, NY, Roberta (Robbie) Laskowski, Lockport, NY; brother, David (Michelle) of Las Vegas, NV; two step-sons, Jeffrey Cummings and Eric Cummings of Lockport, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his dog, Mitzi.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 3-6 PM with a prayer service at 4:30 PM at Lankford Funeral Home. The family requests donations go to Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, National Processing Center, ATTN: Honor & Memorial Gifts, POB 1245, Albert Lea, MN 56007 or to the American Heart Association, 555 West Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32714 in Donald's memory.
