Robert M. Thompson

BUFFALO — Robert M. Thompson, born September 27, 1928, passed away at Buffalo General Hospital, after a short illness, with his loving family by his side on October 7, 2012. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Thompson, natives of Scotland. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Thompson, Jr. He has a surviving sister, Patricia Thompson Warwick.

Robert worked at DuPont for 43 years, retiring in 1994 after 43 years of service. During his time with DuPont, he taught electronic instrumentation and was a project engineer in power distribution. He was proud that both of his children (Darlene and Rob) are employees of DuPont.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950, stationed in Berlin, Germany. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newfane, where he and his wife met and were married. He had many hobbies which included treasure hunting with his metal detectors, politics, studying UFOs and, during his most recent years, painting. Robert enjoyed his family and their vacations together.

In addition to his wife, Clara Liddell Thompson of 57 years, he is survived by his daughter, Darlene Thompson Babcock and his son, Robert C. Thompson. Surviving grandchildren are Kenneth (Michele) Nerber, Erin (Craig) Schafer, Johan and Caleb Thompson. He is survived by great grandchildren, Dawson and Shelby Nerber; Hailey and Jessica Byrne; Hannah, Bailey, Kirsten and Damian Schafer. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Chris) Liddell and sister-in-law, Peggy Ann Liddell; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY 14108, on THURSDAY 4-8 PM. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 6047 East Ave., Newfane, NY 14108, on FRIDAY at 11 AM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newfane Building Fund in his honor.                                                                Please visit www.rutland-corwin.com to send the family a condolence.
