Julia M. Ryan

NEWFANE — Julia M. Ryan, 91, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Newfane Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Born on February 21, 1922, in Royalton Center, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Lula (Eckert) Pogel.

She lived in the Medina area all her life. On February 22, 1941, she married the late Robert E. Ryan, together making their home in Ridgeway.  She worked various jobs, including Tax Collector for the Town of Ridgeway, Applesauce Factory of Lyndonville, G.C. Murphy Co.,  and Harrison Radiator. She was a member of the Home School Club and was past Regent of Court Santa Maria #295 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, a member of the National POW, the Medina Senior Citizens and St. Joseph's/Our Lady of the Lake Parish. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Julia is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Richard) Murray of Lockport, Sheila Kleinsmith of Hohenwold, TN; six grandchildren, Patrick (Carolyn) Murray of Lockport, Lisa (Brian) Stratton of Gasport, Jennifer (Brian)Wilcocks of Lockport, Denise Rone of Hohenwold, TN, Melissa (Philip) Olivencia of Greenwood, IN, Brandy (Jeff) Bennett of  Hohenwold, TN; ten  great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Sarchia and Nettie Sylvester, both of Medina, Helen Grant of Newark, NY; also, several nieces and nephews and her two cats, Smokey and Lucky. She was predeceased by a sister, Frances Natale.

Relatives and friends may call from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina, NY 14103. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, 38 Lake Ave., Lyndonville, NY 14098, with the Pastor, Rev. James Hassett celebrating. Burial will be in the West Ridgeway Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Julia's name to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14624; or to Newfane Rehabilitation & Health Center, 2709 Transit Rd., Newfane, NY  14108; or to any local Veterans organization.
