Lorraine E. Hufnagel

LOCKPORT — Lorraine E. Hufnagel of Lockport, entered into rest Saturday, May 3, 2014. Born February 22, 1919, in Lockport, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Horton) Gaygen.

Lorraine was a member of F.O.E. #825 Auxiliary for 69 years. She was a two-time President and also the New York State President from 1971-72. Lorraine was also a 20-year State Treasurer and 40 years as Secretary. She was a member of the F.O.E. International Hall of Fame, the first woman in the eastern half of the United States to receive that award.

Lorraine was a member of All Saints Church. She was a Den Mother for St. Patrick's Cub Scout Troop 3. Lorraine was the Secretary for the City of Lockport Centennial in 1965, and also served under two Lockport mayors on the Celebration and Events Committee.

Lorraine's husband, Walter W. Hufnagel, passed away January 10, 1977.

Mother of Maureen (William) Schumacher, William (Rose Mary) Hufnagel and Walter (Michiko) Hufnagel, all of Lockport. Grandmother of eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Lorraine was predeceased by one grandson and one great-grandson. Sister of Veronica "Bonnie" Suits, Joyce Woodcock, both of Lockport, and the late James Gaygen, William (Shirley) Gaygen, Helen Stein, Madeline Raczkiewicz and Mary Alice Callahan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call at Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home, Transit & Niagara Sts., on Tuesday from  4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Parish, 76 Church St., on Wednesday morning at 10 AM. Interment, Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Provenzano Memorial Chapel, (433-4335), Mark C. Provenzano, Director.
