WATERLOO — Joseph Robert Nasal died at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, NY on December 19, 2012.  His memorial Mass will be held on a future date. With the advent of WW II, he joined the Army Air Force in 1942. He married Margaret Herg in 1944 in Louisiana before being sent to the European war front. His 397th division followed General Patton's Third Army above the troops, where he was a top turret gunner in a B-26 and flew most of his 42 missions in the "Little Lady". He was promoted to Technical Sergeant with five stripes and returned home from Europe in July of 1945.

Joe went on to complete his education in September 1945 at Canisius College, where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1948 and earned his master's degree in 1949, while working in the steel mills and substitute teaching to support his wife and two children at that time, Kathy and Joe Jr.  Another son, Tom, was born in 1950.

Joe was a social studies teacher in Angelica and Middleport, NY. He also moved his young family to California, where he taught for four years. He retired from Royalton-Hartland High School in 1973. Joe and his wife, Marge, moved from Lockport to Waterloo some years ago.

Amherst and Thomas (Suzanne) of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Robert) Higgins of Montreal, Canada; Sarah (Ted) Lotchin of Arlington, VA; Amy (Robert) Sap of Peoria, AZ; Jennifer Nasal of Buffalo; and David Peters of Waterloo; great- grandchildren, Nate, Gabrielle, Ella, Ryan, Gaby, Jake, Devon, Coye, Michael, Matthew and McKenna. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Lee Herg in West Seneca; nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Herg, in 2011; parents; sisters, Mary (Paul) Andreozzi and Helen (Charlie) Stone; and brother, John (Mary) Nasal.
